Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has held high-level diplomatic engagements with international leadership to outline the contours and strategic objectives of the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.
In a telephone consultation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, DPM Dar underscored that the trilateral agreement is designed to enhance strategic cooperation and contribute directly to regional peace and stability. FM Araghchi thanked his Pakistani counterpart for sharing key aspects of the pact as both ministers agreed to maintain close contact on evolving regional developments.
The engagement follows official remarks by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, who affirmed that Tehran sees “no reason to worry” that the treaty is directed against Iran. Baqaei noted that the agreement reflects an evolving regional perception toward self-reliance and collective security mechanisms, rather than dependence on external security guarantees.

DPM Dar clarified that the Makkah Accord is “purely defensive in nature,” does not abrogate or replace existing bilateral or multilateral agreements, and remains open to any regional nation committed to peaceful cooperation and mutual respect.
As part of Islamabad’s diplomatic briefing, DPM Dar also conducted consultations with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, and former Guinea-Bissau President General Umaro Sissoco Embaló to highlight the agreement’s significance for long-term stability.
