China and OIC Strengthen Ties: Wang Yi Proposes Four-Pillar Partnership

Jan 28, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, in Beijing to deepen the strategic bond between China and the Islamic world. During the talks, Wang proposed the creation of four distinct “partnerships” focused on development, security, civilization, and governance, to foster solidarity within the Global South. Wang emphasized that China remains committed to opposing “the law of the jungle” in international relations, advocating instead for a more just global order where the legitimate rights of developing nations are protected.

A central theme of the meeting was the Palestinian question, with both leaders calling for a “comprehensive, lasting, and just” resolution. Secretary-General Taha praised China’s consistent commitment to justice in the Middle East and expressed hope that Beijing would play an even larger role in regional peace efforts. In return, Taha reaffirmed the OIC’s firm adherence to the One-China principle and expressed appreciation for the development achievements in Xinjiang, which Taha had visited personally prior to the Beijing talks.

The visit marks a significant upgrade in relations following President Xi Jinping’s direct outreach to the 2024 OIC Summit. Vice President Han Zheng also met with Taha, highlighting the OIC’s role as a vital bridge between China and 57 Islamic nations. As tensions rise elsewhere in the region, both sides agreed that a stable, predictable partnership is essential for the prosperity and security of the broader international community.
