Pakistan Categorically Rejects Third-Country Observations on Sovereign Cooperation with Bangladesh

The Government of Pakistan has categorically rejected the unwarranted observations and interference by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding the deepening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Sovereignty and Non-Interference

Responding to recent remarks by the Indian MEA spokesperson concerning defense-related engagements between Islamabad and Dhaka, sources within the Foreign Office emphasized that bilateral relations between two sovereign states are an exclusive matter. Pakistan maintains that any third-country commentary on these engagements is “misplaced, unwarranted,” and lacks any legal locus standi.

“The nature and scope of cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh are based on mutual interest and regional stability. These are sovereign decisions that do not require validation or approval from any third party,” a senior official stated.

Defense Cooperation and the JF-17 Thunder

The Foreign Office clarified that recent high-level military-to-military engagements are aimed at enhancing regional security. This follows the successful meeting between Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Key highlights of this cooperation include:

  • JF-17 Thunder: Detailed discussions on the potential procurement of the JF-17 multi-role fighter aircraft by Bangladesh.
  • Capacity Building: A reaffirmed commitment to a comprehensive training framework for Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) personnel across various PAF institutions.
  • Technical Support: The fast-tracking of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft delivery and specialized assistance in maintaining the BAF’s existing fleet and air defense radar integration.

Connectivity and Aviation

Regarding the resumption of direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka scheduled for January 29, Pakistan underscores that such connectivity serves the people of both nations. Any technical matters regarding airspace usage will be managed under established international aviation protocols and existing arrangements, without the need for politicization.

Pakistan remains committed to fostering a robust, multi-dimensional relationship with Bangladesh rooted in history, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a prosperous South Asia.
