The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a large-scale project to upgrade its national firewall system, aiming to strengthen cybersecurity and protect critical digital infrastructure against modern cyber threats.
The upgrade, estimated to cost between Rs40 million and Rs120 million, will deploy next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) equipped with intrusion prevention, web filtering, malware protection, VPN security, and SSL inspection.

According to PTA officials, the new system will enhance monitoring, prevent unauthorized access, and provide real-time defense across the country’s telecom and digital networks.

The project covers the installation of advanced firewalls at PTA headquarters and regional offices, integration with national data centers, and coordination with the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for intelligence sharing.
Implementation will occur in multiple phases, including assessment, hardware procurement, testing, and staff training. PTA says the upgraded infrastructure will feature centralized management, automatic failover, and round-the-clock vendor support to ensure uninterrupted protection.
