Pakistan Calls for Urgent Diplomacy to End Sudan Conflict

In a high-level session of the United Nations Security Council convened to address the deteriorating situation in Sudan’s Darfur region, Pakistan has issued a definitive call for the renewal of diplomatic efforts and the immediate facilitation of unhindered humanitarian access.

A Call for Diplomacy Over Arms

Addressing the 15-member Council on Monday, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, emphasized the futility of continued hostilities. “There is no military solution to the conflict,” Ambassador Jadoon stated, urging the rival military factions—the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—to prioritize the lives of the Sudanese people over a zero-sum power struggle.

Pakistan reiterated its unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan. Ambassador Jadoon underscored that any lasting peace must be achieved through a “Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned” political process, free from external interference.

Addressing the Atrocities in Darfur

The session follows harrowing reports from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan briefed the Council on the “appalling” scale of crimes against humanity being committed in Darfur, specifically citing mass graves, systematic rape, and executions in the wake of the RSF’s seizure of El Fasher in October 2025.

In response to these findings, Pakistan expressed deep concern over the “horrendous” humanitarian conditions and the reigniting of ethnic tensions that have historically plagued the region.

Core Demands of the Pakistan Mission

  • Immediate Cessation of Hostilities: An urgent ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian life.
  • Humanitarian Corridors: The opening of safe and unhindered routes for international aid to reach those subjected to “collective torture” and displacement.
  • Inclusive Political Dialogue: A transition toward a stable, representative government through diplomatic negotiation rather than armed conflict.
  • Respect for International Law: Ensuring accountability for the documented war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur and beyond.

Ambassador Jadoon concluded by reaffirming that Pakistan remains a steadfast advocate for dialogue, viewing the restoration of peace in Sudan as a vital component of regional and international security.
