The reopening marks a major milestone in restoring air transport to the region. Rigorous trials were conducted by Pakistan Army Aviation on April 26 to ensure the quality of the construction, upgrades, runway functionality, and overall operational readiness. Six successful landing and takeoff trials confirmed that the runways meet professional standards and safety protocols.
The airport’s performance was thoroughly evaluated under various operational conditions during these trials. With the trials complete, Parachinar Airport is poised to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate emergency response efforts, and stimulate economic activity in the area.
Last year, officials from the PAA and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) visited Parachinar Airport to determine its viability for commercial and humanitarian flights. An eight-member committee, comprised of PAA and PIA officers, was formed to assess the airport’s infrastructure and the potential for reopening. The committee conducted a detailed inspection of the airport’s facilities, including the terminal building, runway, fire garages, accommodation, generator room, and other key operational areas.
