Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has successfully completed a test flight of its long-grounded Boeing 777 aircraft, paving the way for its return to active service.
The aircraft, registered as AP-BGZ, had been out of operation since May 2025 due to the unavailability of critical spare parts. After the successful test flight, it is now expected to be reintegrated into PIA’s fleet in the coming days.
This addition will significantly boost PIA’s long-haul capacity, giving the airline more flexibility in scheduling and helping it better meet growing passenger demand on international routes.

In a related positive development, PIA recently resumed flights to London after a six-year break. The first flight, PK-785, took off from Islamabad on March 29, 2026, carrying 325 passengers. The departure ceremony was attended by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and senior PIA officials, including Chairman of the PIA Consortium Arif Habib. Passengers were given gifts, and one lucky traveler even won a 660cc car in a raffle draw.
These steps signal a gradual improvement in PIA’s operational strength and its efforts to rebuild trust and capacity on key international routes.
