Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan Sign Agreement to Boost Bilateral Trade to $200 Million

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed a formal agreement to raise annual bilateral trade from US$16 million to US$200 million within two years. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov witnessed the agreement, which upgrades an earlier memorandum into a binding framework for cooperation.

What the Pakistan–Kyrgyzstan agreement covers

The package includes 17 documents covering trade, energy, transit, defense, security, legal cooperation, virtual assets, postal services, and civic ties. The broad scope matters because trade growth depends on more than a headline target: businesses also need workable transport routes, predictable rules, and institutional contacts that can resolve problems quickly.

A transit arrangement will allow Kyrgyz trade with South Asian and global markets to use Pakistan’s seaports. That gives the agreement a practical logistics dimension and could create opportunities for freight, warehousing, customs, and port-related services.

Energy, investment, and regional connectivity

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan also agreed to implement the CASA-1000 project within the stipulated timeframe and established a joint energy working group focused on hydropower, renewables, and modern technologies. Cooperation in these areas could strengthen regional connectivity while supporting long-term energy planning.

The two sides formalized sister-city ties between Lahore and Osh and explored commercial participation in Kyrgyzstan’s Tamchy Special Financial Investment Territory. These links can help move the relationship beyond government meetings by giving local authorities, investors, and private companies a clearer channel for follow-up.

The US$200 million target will ultimately be measured through actual shipments, investment commitments, and regular commercial exchanges.
