Punjab Police have deported more than 34,000 undocumented foreign residents from the province in a major crackdown, officials confirmed on Friday.
The operation, carried out across Lahore and other districts, included over 13,000 men, 6,868 women, and more than 14,000 children. While the majority were Afghans, it also covered other foreign nationals living without proper documentation.

According to police, the deported individuals fell into three categories:
- 10,665 had proof of residence
- 11,114 held Afghan Citizen Cards
- 12,206 were completely undocumented
Currently, 201 people remain in holding centres and will be repatriated soon. Police said they are coordinating with federal and provincial authorities to ensure safe returns.
A Punjab Police spokesperson stressed that the drive is not aimed at targeting any specific nationality, but is part of a broader effort to enforce immigration laws and maintain law and order. He added that special care is being taken for families, especially children, and that all procedures follow humanitarian standards.
The large-scale deportations have sparked mixed reactions. Many locals support the move for better regulation and security, while humanitarian groups have urged authorities to handle vulnerable cases sensitively.
Analysts point out that the operation may affect local labour markets, particularly in construction, domestic work, and small businesses, where many undocumented foreigners were active. However, officials maintain that proper documentation and rule of law must take priority.
The drive is expected to continue until all undocumented foreign residents in Punjab are either regularized or safely repatriated.
