PM Shehbaz Orders Crackdown on Oil Hoarders Amid Regional Conflict

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a stern directive to provincial governments to take immediate legal action against individuals and entities hoarding petroleum products. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister responded to reports of artificial fuel shortages as the public grows anxious over the ongoing U.S.-Iran-Israel conflict and its impact on the Strait of Hormuz. He ordered the immediate closure of any petrol stations found creating “nefarious” shortages and instructed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to cancel their operating licenses.

To ensure transparency and stability in the energy supply chain, the Prime Minister directed the creation of a digital dashboard to monitor the real-time movement and transportation of petroleum products across the country. This data will be shared with provincial authorities to prevent illegal stockpiling and price gouging. Despite the regional volatility, officials provided a detailed briefing confirming that Pakistan currently possesses adequate oil reserves to meet national requirements for the foreseeable future.

The Minister for Petroleum has been tasked with visiting all provinces to coordinate a unified conservation plan. This strategic move aims to protect the public from market manipulation while the government simultaneously negotiates alternative supply routes through Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea ports. By integrating technology and strict enforcement, the administration hopes to stabilize domestic markets as global energy prices continue to fluctuate.
