The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the passing of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot. A world-renowned actress, singer, and cultural icon, Madame Bardot famously chose to abandon her prestigious film career to dedicate her life’s energy to the protection of animals and the establishment of her foundation.

A Legacy of Compassion
Madame Bardot’s transition from the screen to activism was a profound personal mission. While she achieved global stardom following the 1956 film And God Created Woman and appeared in approximately 50 films, her true calling was found in the defense of those without a voice.
The Foundation notes that her path toward activism was solidified during the filming of her final project, The Edifying and Joyous Story of Colinot. Upon encountering a goat on set and learning of its impending fate, Madame Bardot intervened, purchasing the animal and housing it in her hotel room to ensure its safety. This act of compassion became the catalyst for her permanent retirement from the film industry.

Lifelong Dedication to Animal Welfare
After retiring from the public eye, Madame Bardot settled near Saint-Tropez, transforming her global influence into a powerful tool for animal rights. She founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation to lead international efforts in:
- Combating animal cruelty and exploitation.
- Advocating for legislative changes to protect domestic and wild animals.
- Providing sanctuary and direct care for animals in need.
In her final months, Madame Bardot remained resilient, even recently dismissing false rumors regarding her health to ensure the focus remained on the Foundation’s work.
An Unwavering Commitment
“Brigitte Bardot was not just a founder; she was the heart of this movement,” the Foundation stated. “She walked away from the pinnacle of fame to live a life of service to the animal kingdom. Her courage and tireless dedication have saved countless lives and changed the way the world views animal welfare.”
The Foundation will continue its operations in honor of her vision and steadfast commitment. Details regarding memorial services will be shared at a later time, as the Foundation requests privacy for her loved ones and staff during this period of mourning.
