Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Offers Condolences on Passing of Khaleda Zia









On December 31, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited the Embassy of Bangladesh in China to offer official condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Ms. Khaleda Zia.

Chinese Government Tribute

On behalf of the Chinese government, Vice Foreign Minister Sun expressed profound grief over the passing of Ms. Khaleda Zia. He extended sincere sympathies to the interim government of Bangladesh and the bereaved family members.

During the visit, Vice Foreign Minister Sun spoke highly of Ms. Khaleda Zia’s significant legacy, noting her “important contributions to promoting the cause of China-Bangladesh friendship and the development of bilateral relations.” He emphasized that her efforts played a vital role in laying the foundation for the long-standing partnership between the two nations.

Response from Bangladesh

Ambassador of Bangladesh to China, H.E. Nazmul Islam, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for the gesture of solidarity. Ambassador Islam recalled that during Ms. Khaleda Zia’s tenure as Prime Minister, cooperation between the two countries was comprehensively strengthened across various sectors.

He reaffirmed that the Bangladeshi side remains deeply committed to advancing the friendly relations and strategic cooperation between Bangladesh and China.

Commitment to Future Relations

The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating the importance of the China-Bangladesh partnership. The Chinese side remains dedicated to working with the Bangladeshi government to continue the momentum of friendship championed by the late former Prime Minister.
