The Prime Minister chaired a review meeting in Islamabad today, focusing on the progress of reforms within the power sector. He stated that electricity generation via renewable sources, including hydropower, solar energy, and biogas, will significantly reduce production costs and positively impact economic growth.
Sharif made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for electricity theft. He directed departmental action against electricity distribution companies found violating the Economic Merit Order. He also called for an acceleration of the project to install smart meters on transformers in areas prone to electricity theft.
The Prime Minister urged the acceleration of efforts to promote a competitive electricity market in the country and fast-tracked the supply of 400 megawatts of electricity to the private sector under the wheeling system in the first phase.
The meeting revealed significant improvements in the power sector.
