On December 30, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Sheikh Zayed Palace in Rahim Yar Khan. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior officials, the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to transforming the long-standing fraternal bond between the two nations into a “quantum jump” for bilateral trade and a mutually beneficial strategic economic partnership. This meeting served as a follow-up to the President’s first official visit to Pakistan just days earlier on December 26, which featured a ceremonial 21-gun salute and a PAF JF-17 escort.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across several critical sectors, including information technology, renewable energy, mining, and defense. Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the vital role of the 2.1 million Pakistani expatriates currently residing in the UAE, who contribute significantly to both economies through labor and substantial remittances. The two leaders also reviewed progress on recent memoranda of understanding (MoUs) regarding cultural exchange, consular affairs, and the establishment of a Joint Business Council.

This engagement caps a year of intense diplomatic activity aimed at shifting Pakistan’s relationship with the Gulf from traditional financial aid toward long-term, sustainable investment.
