Sony has announced a significant global price increase for its PlayStation 5 hardware, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Starting April 2, 2026, all three PS5 models will see a $100 price jump in the United States, with similar increases across the UK, Europe, and Japan. The high-end PlayStation 5 Pro will now retail for $899.99, up from its original $749.99 price point. This marks the second time in less than a year that Sony has raised console prices, following a $50 hike last August.
Sony says it plans to raise the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles globally beginning on April 2; the PS5 will cost $650, PS5 Digital $600, and PS5 Pro $900 (@emroth08 / The Verge)https://t.co/FVur36w6tohttps://t.co/zHPd17IiRB

Beyond the consoles, the PlayStation Portal is also seeing a price increase from $199.99 to $249.99. Industry analysts attribute these shifts to the global memory shortage and rising RAM costs, which have also impacted competitors like Microsoft and Nintendo. Notably, Sony is not alone in this trend; Nintendo recently raised the price of the original Switch to $339 following new federal tariffs. Due to these ongoing supply chain constraints, reports suggest Sony may even delay its next-generation console release until 2028 or 2029 to ensure a sustainable market launch.
