Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held separate meetings with the US and Iranian envoys on Monday to finalise security arrangements for a possible second round of US-Iran talks in Islamabad.
According to the Ministry of Interior, Naqvi met US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker and Iran’s Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam to review preparations ahead of the high-level negotiations.

In his meeting with the Iranian envoy, Naqvi said foolproof security had been put in place for all foreign delegations and stressed the need for a sustainable solution through dialogue. “Pakistan is in favour of resolving the US-Iran conflict through negotiations,” he said, adding that an enduring settlement would guarantee regional peace and stability.
He also highlighted the deep and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran.
During the meeting with the US envoy, Naqvi briefed Baker on the comprehensive security plan and prayed for the success of the second round. The US diplomat appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts to reduce regional tensions.

Both meetings were attended by senior officials, including Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf, and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon.
The discussions come as a US delegation is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday, although Iran has yet to confirm its participation. The first round of direct talks held in Islamabad last weekend ended without a breakthrough after more than 21 hours of negotiations.
Extraordinary security measures are already in place across the capital. The Red Zone and Extended Red Zone have been sealed, key routes including the Expressway and Srinagar Highway face possible closures, and public transport in the twin cities has been suspended. Over 10,000 personnel from police, paramilitary, and other agencies are on duty.
The two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, brokered with Pakistan’s mediation, is set to expire on April 22, adding urgency to the diplomatic efforts.
Pakistan continues to play a central facilitating role, maintaining open communication channels with both sides.
