Security forces killed a high-profile terrorist and his alleged suicide bomber accomplice during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.
On 19 April 2026, an intelligence based operation was conducted by Security Forces in Bannu District on reported presence of khwarij.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on reported presence of “khawarij” — a term used by the state for terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
After an intense exchange of fire, two terrorists were neutralised, including Waheedullah alias Muktiar, described as a “most-wanted” terrorist and the main handler behind several attacks. A suicide jacket, weapons, and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
Waheedullah was reportedly involved in numerous terrorist activities, including the martyrdom of Lt Col Gul Faraz during an earlier IBO in Bannu on February 21. The ISPR said the operation avenged that attack and averted a major potential catastrophe.
A sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any other terrorists present.
The military’s media wing reiterated that the counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-i-Istehkam” framework will continue with full force to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
Bannu district has witnessed a surge in militant violence in recent months, with multiple attacks targeting security forces and civilians. Just on Sunday, two personnel of the Frontier Constabulary were martyred in a separate firing incident in the Cantt police station jurisdiction.
This latest successful operation underscores the security forces’ resolve to maintain law and order and protect the lives of citizens in the region.
