Gaza Faces New Wave of Strikes Despite U.S. Ceasefire Push

Oct 4, 2025 | Latest News, Global Affairs

Gaza’s Civil Defence Agency has reported that Israel carried out dozens of air strikes and artillery shelling across Gaza City and surrounding areas overnight, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for an immediate halt to bombardments following Hamas’s partial acceptance of a ceasefire proposal.

“It was a very violent night,” said Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence. “The Israeli army conducted dozens of air strikes and artillery attacks on Gaza City and other parts of the Strip, despite President Trump’s demand to stop the bombing.” Basal confirmed that at least 20 homes were destroyed during the attacks, with rescue teams still searching for survivors beneath the rubble.

Medical facilities across Gaza continue to face mounting pressure. Al-Ahli Hospital (the Baptist Hospital) in Gaza City reported receiving multiple casualties from a strike that hit a home in the Tuffah neighbourhood, resulting in four deaths and several injuries. Meanwhile, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, officials confirmed that two children were killed and eight others injured after a drone strike targeted a tent in a displacement camp.

The latest escalation comes just days after President Trump unveiled a ceasefire plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal calls for a halt to hostilities, the release of captives within 72 hours, the disarmament of Hamas, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

While Hamas announced conditional acceptance of the plan, stating its readiness to release captives under the framework, the group also demanded clarifications on key points and involvement in shaping Gaza’s political future

As strikes continue, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with international observers urging both parties to honour ceasefire commitments and prioritize civilian protection.
