Imran Khan’s Sisters Abandon Jail Sit-In for Islamabad Protest

On January 20, 2026, the sisters of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, Aleema, Uzma, and Noreen, ended their sit-in near Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and launched a surprise protest march toward Islamabad. The demonstration, which began on Murree Road, was triggered after jail authorities once again denied the family a court-mandated meeting with the former prime minister. Aleema Khan told reporters that the protesters decided to march toward the federal capital because the “powers that be” are afraid of peaceful citizens seeking their legal rights.

The protest saw heavy participation from PTI workers despite a massive police deployment. Highlighting the escalation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who assumed office in October 2025, joined the sisters earlier in the day to demand an end to Imran Khan’s solitary confinement. PTI leaders have warned that these bi-weekly sit-ins are just a precursor to a massive nationwide wheel-jam strike scheduled for February 8, which they are calling a “Black Day.” Uzma Khan even urged supporters in Lahore to fly kites with Imran’s image during the upcoming Basant festival as a sign of resistance.

Tensions remain high in the Twin Cities as police have reportedly begun rounding up party workers. The Foreign Office and jail administration have not yet commented on the sudden shift in the protest’s location. Meanwhile, the UN has recently expressed concern over the conditions of Khan’s detention, which PTI claims have become increasingly restrictive. The party maintains that the “street movement” will continue to intensify until the Islamabad High Court’s 2025 orders for regular family meetings are strictly implemented.
