Iran has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s call to resume nuclear weapons testing, describing the move as “regressive and irresponsible.” The statement came from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who accused Washington of hypocrisy for pursuing atomic tests while criticizing Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme.

“Having rebranded its ‘Department of Defense’ as the ‘Department of War,’ a nuclear-armed bully is resuming testing of atomic weapons,” Araghchi wrote on X late Thursday. He further stated that the US continues to threaten Iran’s safeguarded facilities in violation of international law.
President Trump announced his decision on Truth Social, shortly before his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in South Korea. He claimed the US would resume nuclear testing “on an equal basis” with Russia and China, whose arsenals he said could match Washington’s within five years.
Experts suggest Trump’s announcement is a reaction to recent Russian and Chinese missile tests. The move has raised global concern, as nuclear testing remains banned under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which the US, China, and Iran have signed but not ratified.
