Iran Adopts ‘Eye-for-an-Eye’ Policy as Conflict Escalates

In a series of high-stakes statements on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf made it clear that Tehran is not seeking a ceasefire in its ongoing war with the United States and Israel. Posting on X, Ghalibaf argued that the “Zionist regime” relies on a cycle of “war-negotiation-ceasefire” to maintain its power, a cycle he vowed Iran would “break” through decisive military force. He emphasized that the only way to secure the country’s future is to “strike the aggressor in the mouth” to ensure that an attack on Iran is never considered again.

The rhetoric escalated further as Ghalibaf decreed a new “eye for an eye” policy for the current conflict. He warned that any strike against Iranian national infrastructure would be met with an immediate and proportionate retaliatory strike against U.S. and Israeli infrastructure. This stance follows recent Iranian strikes on Gulf energy hubs, which Tehran justifies as a necessary response to the joint U.S.-Israeli aerial campaign that began in late February.

In a rare and direct rebuttal, Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana responded in Farsi on social media, dismissing the notion of a negotiated truce. Ohana asserted that “the only thing proposed to you was unconditional surrender,” suggesting that from the Israeli perspective, a ceasefire was never on the table. This exchange of threats underscores the total breakdown of diplomacy as the war enters its second week, with both nations preparing for a prolonged and destructive engagement targeting critical national assets.
