Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a warm and detailed 45-minute telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, reaffirming Pakistan’s strong commitment to facilitating regional peace and security.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders discussed the current regional situation and the progress of diplomatic efforts to end the US-Iran conflict. PM Shehbaz thanked President Pezeshkian for sending a high-powered Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to the first round of talks in Islamabad on April 11-12.

The Prime Minister also briefed the Iranian president on his recent engagements with the leadership of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, noting that these interactions had helped build broader consensus in support of sustained dialogue and diplomacy.
He expressed appreciation for the constructive conversations Iranian leaders had with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during the latter’s recent visit to Tehran. PM Shehbaz reiterated that, with the support of friends and partners, Pakistan would remain fully committed to its honest and sincere efforts to advance peace in the region. He also conveyed his respectful regards to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir for Pakistan’s steadfast support and expressed confidence that relations between Iran and Pakistan would continue to grow stronger.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both ministers agreed on the need for continued dialogue and close coordination to resolve outstanding issues and promote regional stability.

The conversation between PM Shehbaz and President Pezeshkian comes as efforts intensify to arrange a second round of US-Iran talks in Islamabad, following the first round that ended without a final agreement but kept diplomatic channels open. The current two-week ceasefire, brokered with Pakistan’s mediation, is due to expire on April 22.
Pakistan continues to play a central facilitating role in the peace process, leveraging its relations with both Washington and Tehran.
