Iran Reviews US Response to 14-Point Proposal Amidst Tensions

Iran has confirmed receiving the United States’ response to its 14-point proposal via Pakistan and is currently reviewing the details, according to state media. However, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson indicated that nuclear negotiations are not presently underway.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement via X, urging US President Donald Trump to choose between an “impossible” war and a “bad deal” with Iran. The IRGC intelligence department claimed that Tehran had set a deadline for the US military to end its blockade of Iranian ports, noting growing criticism from Europe, China, and Russia towards Washington’s stance.

President Trump acknowledged being informed about the concept of a potential deal with Iran but stated he was awaiting the exact wording. He cautioned that the possibility of resuming strikes on Iran remained if Tehran were to “misbehave.”

A senior Iranian official revealed that the rejected Iranian proposal aimed to open shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and end the US blockade of Iran, with nuclear program talks postponed.

Trump likened the US Navy’s blockade of Iranian ports to “pirates” while describing the seizure of an Iranian ship, cargo, and oil as “a very profitable business.”

Brig Gen Mohammad Jafar Asadi, spokesman for Iran’s military headquarters, suggested that renewed conflict with the US was “possible” following President Trump’s rejection of the latest peace proposal from Tehran. He warned of “surprise measures” planned for the enemy.

Iranian media reiterated the nation’s firm position on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the IRGC Navy’s commitment to regional security and prosperity.

Despite ongoing tensions, Iran’s foreign minister affirmed Tehran’s readiness for diplomacy if the US alters its approach.

The Iranian proposal includes the withdrawal of US forces from areas surrounding Iran, lifting the blockade, releasing Iran’s frozen assets, payment of compensation, lifting sanctions, ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and a new control mechanism for the strait.

The United States and Israel suspended their bombing campaign against Iran four weeks ago.

Iran has been blocking nearly all shipping from the Gulf, with the US imposing its own blockade of ships from Iranian ports last month.

A senior Iranian official emphasized that shelving nuclear talks for a later stage represented a significant shift aimed at facilitating an agreement.

Under the proposal, the war would end with guarantees against future attacks from Israel and the United States. Iran would open the Strait, and the United States would lift its blockade. Future talks would address curbs to Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions, with Iran seeking recognition of its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
