Apple is reportedly making steady progress on its long-awaited under-screen camera technology, with plans to introduce it in 2027, one year after debuting under-screen Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. According to the Weibo-based tipster Digital Chat Station, the tech will follow Apple’s pattern of gradual integration, focusing on maintaining image quality, a major weakness in current Android phones with similar setups.

Reports indicate that LG Innotek, one of Apple’s key suppliers, has been developing “freeform optic” multi-lens arrays to reduce distortion and boost brightness for cameras placed beneath the display. JP Morgan analysts recently claimed Apple’s first foldable iPhone could feature an industry-first 24-megapixel under-display camera, far exceeding the 4–8MP standards used today.
