Music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months (four years and two months) in federal prison on Friday after a dramatic, all-day court hearing. District Judge Arun Subramanian imposed the sentence and a $500,000 fine following Combs’s conviction on prostitution-related charges.
The 55-year-old mogul was convicted in July of two counts of transporting people across state lines for prostitution. Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges brought against him, including sex trafficking and racketeering.
During the hearing, the defense requested a 14-month sentence, which would have effectively amounted to time served, as Combs has been incarcerated in Brooklyn for over a year. Prosecutors, however, had sought a significantly harsher sentence of 11 years behind bars.
Prior to the judge’s ruling, Combs issued an apology and begged for mercy, capping the high-profile legal proceedings that have captivated the entertainment industry.
The 50-month sentence begins immediately, reflecting the gravity of the offenses for which the defendant was convicted.
