Education authorities in Lahore suspended classes at 133 government schools after a structural survey by the Communication and Works Department declared the buildings unsafe. The inspection identified serious risks in both partially and completely dilapidated blocks, leading officials to immediately vacate and seal the hazardous structures. To ensure education continues without interruption, students are being relocated to safer classrooms or nearby institutions while the dangerous areas remain strictly cordoned off.

Alongside these emergency closures, the District Education Authority has launched a city-wide infrastructure upgrade. New toilet blocks are currently under construction in 144 schools, and boundary walls are being erected in 34 others to bolster security. To maintain safety during this transition, every construction site has a designated teacher serving as a focal person to monitor progress and enforce safety protocols.

Authorities have assured parents that these repairs and new constructions are being fast-tracked. While the large-scale suspension underscores the long-standing challenge of maintaining aging public infrastructure, officials emphasized that student safety is the non-negotiable priority. Further assessments are planned across the district to identify and fix similar structural vulnerabilities before they pose a threat to staff or students.
