Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — In a significant counterterrorism breakthrough, security forces have eliminated nine terrorists belonging to the banned Fitna-al-Khawarij (FAK) during a three-day-long joint operation by the Upper Dir Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Bilal, the targeted operation was launched on credible intelligence indicating the presence of militants in adjoining areas under the jurisdiction of Dir City Police Station.
“Nine terrorists were killed in the operation and the bodies of five have been recovered so far. Ten police personnel sustained injuries due to terrorist fire, while two local civilians were also martyred,” the DPO confirmed.
He reiterated the commitment of the force, stating:
“Dir Police stands ready to eliminate terrorism and protect the lives and property of the people. This operation will continue until the complete eradication of Fitna-al-Khawarij.”

Background of Clashes in Dir Region
The latest operation follows a weekend of fierce clashes in Upper and Lower Dir districts, where militants launched attacks on police and security forces. In these confrontations, five security personnel and three civilians, including a two-year-old child, embraced martyrdom, while several police officials sustained injuries. At least seven terrorists were also killed in those encounters.
During the firefights, militants torched police vehicles in Lower Dir’s Lajbook Dara area, an incident later claimed by the outlawed TTP on social media. Authorities confirmed that some of the slain militants may have had cross-border links in Afghanistan.
State’s Commitment to Eradicating Terrorism
The government, which has formally designated the TTP as “Fitna-al-Khawarij”, has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against terrorism. Security forces remain fully mobilized to neutralize threats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and other affected regions.
Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist activity since the TTP unilaterally ended its ceasefire in late 2022. However, the intensified counterterrorism campaign by law enforcement agencies has dealt successive blows to militant groups.
