In a landmark move for inclusivity, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a series of initiatives for autistic children in Punjab, including free therapy, books, uniforms, meals, and transport for all enrolled students.
The announcement came during the first Board of Directors meeting of the Maryam Nawaz School and Resource Centre for Autism, chaired by Special Assistant to the CM on Special Education, Sania Ashiq. The institution will be Pakistan’s first government-run, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the education and rehabilitation of autistic children.

The centre will feature an open gym, sensory garden, sand therapy area, and walking track, all free for students. It will also house a Teacher Training and Research Resource Centre to enhance special education practices across the province.
The Board approved immediate admissions, staff recruitment, and evening therapy sessions on a self-finance basis to broaden access.
Officials from the health and education departments attended the meeting, while others joined via video link. The Board praised CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership and her vision for a more inclusive Punjab.
