Northern Pakistan is grappling with its deadliest floods in years, as torrential monsoon rains triggered flash floods and landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and surrounding areas. Officials confirmed that the death toll has climbed beyond 307, with hundreds more missing, as villages were swept away and infrastructure collapsed under the force of rising waters.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has released details of the devastation caused by heavy rains and floods over the past 48 hours, confirming that the death toll has crossed 300.

Buner remains the hardest-hit district, reporting over 180 fatalities, followed by Shangla, Battagram, and parts of Mansehra. Several deaths were also confirmed in Gilgit-Baltistan. Rescue efforts suffered a severe setback when a military helicopter engaged in relief operations crashed in Mohmand, killing all five crew members.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have deployed emergency teams, while the military has been called in to assist with airlifts, medical camps, and road clearance. However, widespread damage to highways, bridges, and power lines has hampered access to remote villages. Eyewitnesses described the floods as “like doomsday,” with entire communities cut off from relief.

Meteorological forecasts predict that heavy rainfall will persist until August 21, raising concerns of further casualties and destruction. Emergency shelters have been set up in safer districts, though resources remain stretched thin. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed federal and provincial authorities to accelerate rescue operations and ensure immediate disbursement of relief funds to victims’ families.
