Islamabad, Pakistan – August 1, 2025 – Pakistan today concluded its one-month presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of July, successfully leveraging the position to refocus global attention on critical issues of international peace and security. The country’s UN mission announced that Islamabad’s tenure was marked by a deep commitment to the UN Charter, with a particular emphasis on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and instability in the Middle East.
Throughout the presidency, Pakistan hosted an open debate at the Council, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent delivery of relief items to the war-torn region. The country also advocated for an “inclusive” political process to stabilize Syria.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar further advanced Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts by pushing for the “universal recognition” of Palestine and its full membership at the UN during a high-level conference.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, expressed his gratitude to all UNSC members for their cooperation, stating, “Pakistan approached its presidency with a sense of humility, deep commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and focus on the Council’s core mandate for maintaining international peace and security.”
During the month, the UNSC adopted five resolutions covering a range of global issues, including dispute resolution, sanctions on the Central African Republic (CAR), and matters related to Yemen, Haiti, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) elections. Pakistan also hosted a briefing on UN–OIC cooperation.
