Pakistan Air Force Observes Martyrs’ Day with Solemnity, and Resolve

Islamabad – September 7, 2025 The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Sunday observed Martyrs’ Day with profound solemnity and reverence across all its bases nationwide. The day was dedicated to paying glowing tributes to the courageous heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of the country’s aerial frontiers. The ceremonies served as a powerful reminder of the PAF’s enduring commitment to its founding principles and the sacrifices that have cemented its legacy as a formidable force.

The day’s observance commenced with special prayers and Quran Khawani at PAF bases, a spiritual tribute to the fallen. These prayers were dedicated to the martyrs of the 1965 and 1971 wars, as well as to all those who have embraced martyrdom in the line of duty since the creation of Pakistan. This tradition underscores the deep-rooted respect and gratitude the PAF and the nation hold for their heroes.

Central Ceremony at Air Headquarters

A central ceremony was held at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, presided as the chief guest. His presence highlighted the institutional importance of Martyrs’ Day and the leadership’s unwavering commitment to honoring the fallen.

In his address, the Air Chief articulated the significance of the day, stating that Martyrs’ Day symbolizes the “extraordinary bravery, professionalism and spirit of sacrifice that define the Armed Forces of Pakistan.” He emphasized that the PAF, fully aware of the evolving security environment, remains steadfast in its mission with a “singularity of purpose.”

Tribute to Gallant Warriors

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu paid a heartfelt homage to the heroes of the 1965 and 1971 wars. He specifically mentioned the legendary contributions of figures like Air Commodore M.M. Alam, who shot down five Indian aircraft in a single sortie, and Squadron Leader Sarfaraz Ahmed Rafiqui, who embraced martyrdom while valiantly defending his formation. Their valor and unwavering commitment to duty have become a beacon for generations of airmen, inspiring them to uphold the highest standards of professional excellence. The Air Chief reiterated that the nation owes an eternal debt of gratitude to these martyrs, whose sacrifices continue to inspire future generations to serve the country with passion and dedication.

The Air Chief also referenced the recent achievements in “Marka-e-Haq / Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” a testament to the PAF’s operational readiness and combat capability. These victories, he said, reaffirm the PAF’s will and capability to guard the country’s aerial frontiers with an iron resolve. He further expressed profound solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, supporting their just struggle for self-determination and reinforcing Pakistan’s principled stance on the issue.

Commitment to Future Capabilities

Reaffirming his resolve to strengthen the country’s defense, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu underscored the PAF’s commitment to advancing its capabilities. He highlighted strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing expertise in space technology, electronic warfare, cyber technologies, niche domains, and indigenous defense production. This forward-looking approach ensures that the PAF remains at the forefront of modern warfare and is fully equipped to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty against any and all threats.

The ceremony concluded with the Air Chief laying a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument, a symbol of national remembrance and gratitude. He then offered Fateha for the departed souls, a solemn act of respect for their sacrifice. The observance of Martyrs’ Day across all PAF bases serves not only as a tribute to the past but as a powerful reminder of the enduring commitment to protecting the nation’s integrity and sovereignty. The day’s events reinforced the spirit of patriotism and the unwavering dedication that are the hallmarks of the Pakistan Air Force.
