Islamabad, Pakistan – The Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) held a comprehensive press briefing today to provide an update on the devastating flood situation and the extensive rescue and relief operations being conducted by the Pakistan Armed Forces. The DG highlighted the unprecedented scale of the disaster, which has affected millions across the country, particularly in the provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. The military is working around the clock in close coordination with civil administration and government agencies to mitigate the crisis.
The DG ISPR stated that the armed forces have deployed thousands of troops and vast resources to the most affected areas to reach stranded individuals and provide immediate assistance. Aerial rescue operations are a top priority, with a large fleet of helicopters conducting missions to air-drop food, water, and medical supplies to isolated communities. The sheer volume of water, especially in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab river basins in Punjab, has led to mass displacement, with thousands of families being relocated to safer ground and relief camps established by the military.
According to the briefing, the scale of infrastructure damage is staggering. Key roads, bridges, and communication networks have been severely disrupted or completely washed away, particularly in remote regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The military’s engineering corps is working to clear debris and reconstruct essential links to ensure aid can reach those in dire need. In Sindh, where the flood crest is now moving, preemptive evacuations are underway, and the military is assisting local authorities in reinforcing embankments to protect vulnerable populations.
The DG ISPR underscored the collaborative nature of the relief effort. He noted that the armed forces are not operating in isolation, but are an integral part of a larger national response. Teams are working shoulder-to-shoulder with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), provincial disaster management authorities, and a multitude of government and non-governmental organizations to ensure a cohesive and effective response. The DG praised the dedication of all personnel involved, acknowledging the difficult and dangerous conditions under which they are operating.
In his concluding remarks, the DG ISPR reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to the nation. “The Pakistan Armed Forces are with their people in this hour of trial,” he stated. “We will not rest until every last person is safe and we have done everything in our power to restore normalcy to their lives. This is a testament to our resolve and our commitment to serving the nation.” The briefing concluded with a call for national unity and a message of hope, assuring the public that the military will continue its efforts until the situation is fully under control.
