Islamabad — Pakistan’s security forces achieved a major counter-terrorism success by eliminating 47 terrorists linked to the proscribed outfit Fitna al-Khawarij during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted between August 7 and 9 in the Sambaza border region of Balochistan.
Terrorists Neutralised While Infiltrating
According to official security sources, the group of terrorists was attempting to illegally cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border with the objective of launching large-scale attacks on Pakistani soil.
Upon interception, security forces engaged the militants in intense clashes, successfully neutralising 47 terrorists. A majority of those killed were identified as Afghan nationals, whose bodies fell across the border on the Afghan side.
Bodies Remained Unclaimed
For nearly two weeks, the terrorists’ remains lay unclaimed in the open, exposed to the elements and scavenging animals. Despite repeated communication, Afghan authorities initially refrained from collecting the bodies.
Following a jirga between Pakistani and Afghan officials on August 25, Afghan authorities finally retrieved the bodies, using donkeys to transport them from the remote border region.

Security officials underscored that the successful operation in Sambaza foiled a major cross-border infiltration attempt:
“This action prevented the terrorists from staging large-scale attacks inside Pakistan. It stands as a major counter-terrorism achievement and reaffirms the resolve of our security forces to protect the nation at all costs.”

Pakistan has consistently expressed grave concerns over terrorist sanctuaries operating across the border and their involvement in attacks against Pakistani civilians and security forces. The state has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no militant group is allowed to destabilise peace in the region.
