The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Kohat police successfully eliminated six terrorists during a joint operation in the Lachi tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Acting on specific intelligence regarding a planned large-scale attack in the area, security forces launched a “search and strike” operation. According to Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi, the suspects initiated a shootout with the police contingent, resulting in the death of all six militants during the exchange of fire.

Following the encounter, security teams recovered a cache of weapons from the scene. The area has been cordoned off as a follow-up search operation continues to ensure no further threats remain. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the professionalism of the KP police and CTD, expressing pride in their ability to thwart the planned assault.

This operation comes at a time of heightened security concerns in the region. Just last month, Kohat was the site of a tragic ambush where six law enforcement personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were martyred. According to the Annual Security Report 2025, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has experienced a sharp increase in militant violence, with fatalities rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
