Bannu, Pakistan – August 8, 2025 – Pakistani security forces successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a checkpost in the Takhti Khel Bakakhel area of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The assault, which involved a quadcopter drone dropping explosives on the post, resulted in the martyrdom of one Frontier Corps (FC) soldier and injuries to three others.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kulachi, the attack occurred late on Tuesday night. The security forces responded with swift and effective retaliatory fire, neutralizing the threat. A large-scale search operation by the FC and KP police has been launched in the area to apprehend the militants responsible, and an indefinite curfew has been imposed in the Havid area of Bannu.
This incident is part of a recent trend of attacks in the region, with the use of drones by terrorists to target security forces on the rise. In response to these evolving threats, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have recently acquired a new anti-drone system to detect and neutralize aerial threats. DPO Kulachi has issued a strong warning that anyone found assisting or sheltering terrorists will face legal consequences.
The attack follows a separate incident on August 3, where a large group of terrorists attacked a police checkpoint in Fateh Khel, Bannu, leading to the martyrdom of a police constable and the deaths of three militants in retaliatory fire. The government has condemned the attacks, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi calling the attackers Indian-sponsored terrorists i.e., Fitna-al-Khawarij (FAK). Funeral prayers for the martyred soldier were held with full honors, as officials paid tribute to his sacrifice and reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region.
