Tensions between Pakistan and India flared again over the weekend after Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar publicly attributed India’s strained relations with Pakistan to the country’s military establishment. Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) swiftly rejected the remarks, calling them part of an “irresponsible” propaganda campaign.

Indian Minister’s Accusation
Speaking at a public forum in New Delhi on Sunday, Minister Jaishankar stated that the majority of India’s issues with Pakistan stemmed from its powerful military. He argued that the army establishment had actively cultivated and sustained an entrenched animosity, which he termed “ideological hostility,” toward New Delhi.
These comments follow a brief but intense military confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbours in May 2025, which saw both sides exchanging heavy fire before a US-brokered ceasefire was implemented.
Pakistan’s Rebuttal
Responding to the comments, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, issued a strong statement calling Jaishankar’s remarks “highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible.”
Andrabi defended Pakistan’s military, asserting that it is a pillar of national security, dedicated to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The May 2025 conflict vividly demonstrated Pakistan armed forces’ professionalism as well as their resolve to defend the motherland and the people of Pakistan against any Indian aggression in a befitting, effective yet responsible manner,” Andrabi said.
The spokesperson further accused the Indian leadership of running a propaganda campaign designed to “distract attention from India’s destabilising actions in the region and beyond as well as state-sponsored terrorism in Pakistan.”
Focus on Internal Ideology
Instead of making “misleading remarks” about Pakistan’s institutions, Andrabi urged India to confront the “fascist and revisionist Hindutva ideology” which, he claimed, has taken the Indian state and its leadership hostage, unleashing a reign of mob justice, arbitrary detentions, and lynchings.

The two countries have a volatile history, having fought three major wars and engaged in countless border skirmishes since their independence in 1947. While the May 2025 conflict concluded with a ceasefire and Pakistan expressed readiness to discuss outstanding issues, India has consistently declined bilateral talks.
