Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, today attended a landmark military parade in Beijing, hosted by the People’s Republic of China to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The grand event, which showcased China’s significant military advancements and commitment to global peace, provided a vital platform for high-level diplomatic engagement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, joining a select group of global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The Prime Minister’s participation in this prestigious event highlights Pakistan’s strong and consistent diplomatic standing on the international stage. His attendance, following a series of productive meetings at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, further strengthens bilateral and multilateral ties with key strategic partners. Of particular note was the public debut of China’s complete nuclear triad, comprising nuclear-capable missiles that can be launched from land, sea, and air. This included the Jinglei-1 air-based long-range missile, the Julang-3 submarine-based intercontinental missile, and the land-based Dongfeng-31 and Dongfeng-61 intercontinental missiles. The parade also featured hypersonic anti-ship missiles, such as the Yingji-17, Yingji-19, and Yingji-20, along with advanced unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles designed for reconnaissance and precision strikes. This impressive display reaffirms the strategic imperative of modern military strength and technological innovation in ensuring national security and stability.

In his address to the 50,000 spectators at Tiananmen Square, President Xi Jinping spoke of the lessons of history and the future of humanity. He emphasized the global choice between “peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum,” asserting that the Chinese people “firmly stand on the right side of history.” The parade itself was steeped in symbolism, with 80 buglers and over 1,000 musicians representing the years since the defeat of imperial Japan and the 14 years of Chinese resistance, respectively.
