Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan and Romania are set to strengthen their bilateral relations, with a new focus on boosting trade and strategic cooperation across multiple sectors. This was the outcome of a recent high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, and the Ambassador of Romania, Dan Stoenescu.During the meeting, Ambassador Stoenescu proposed leveraging Romania’s Constanța Port as a direct and efficient trade route for Pakistani exports destined for European markets. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce transit times and costs, facilitating greater access for Pakistani goods to the continent.
Both sides identified several key sectors for collaboration, including an increase in trade for agricultural products and meat. Discussions also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in pharmaceuticals, surgical goods, and electric fans. In a strategic move towards sustainable development, Romania offered to support Pakistan’s transition to green energy by providing expertise and technology for solar and wind power projects.
The Ambassador also acknowledged the rapid growth of Pakistan’s IT sector and the exceptional talent of its professionals, noting potential opportunities for them in Romania. In response, Minister Khan highlighted the government’s initiatives to further promote and support the IT industry.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to bolster ties through future engagements, including participation in trade exhibitions, and to work together on enhancing cultural diplomacy and visa facilitation to foster closer relations between the two countries.
