Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, has called upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the international community to unequivocally reject any actions that undermine the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The appeal was made during the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah on Sunday, convened specifically to address recent geopolitical shifts in the Horn of Africa.

Rejection of Unilateral Recognition
Addressing the Council, DPM/FM Ishaq Dar characterized the meeting as a vital demonstration of Islamic solidarity. He specifically condemned Israel’s recognition of the self-declared region of “Somaliland” as an independent state, labeling it a “blatant infringement” on Somalia’s national unity.
Pakistan maintained that such recognition constitutes a direct violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. While Somaliland has operated under a unilateral declaration of independence since 1991, it remains unrecognized by the United Nations and major international bodies.
“Pakistan stands firmly with Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Israeli FM’s visit to Somaliland is concerning.”

OIC Consensus and Resolution
In a unified stance, the OIC adopted a resolution—convened at the request of the Somali government—which:
- Formally Rejects Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” as a violation of internationally recognized borders.
- Reaffirms full support for the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu.
- Upholds the principles of the UN Charter regarding the sanctity of state sovereignty.
Regional Issues: Palestine and Kashmir
Beyond the Somali crisis, the session addressed broader regional stability:
- Middle East Peace: The Council passed a resolution asserting that a just and lasting peace is contingent upon Israel’s total withdrawal from Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 and the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
- Kashmir Mandate: DPM/FM Dar held discussions with OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, urging the organization to intensify efforts toward the realization of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.
Diplomatic Engagements
On the sidelines of the extraordinary session, Deputy Prime Minister Dar is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from various OIC member states to further strengthen regional cooperation and discuss matters of mutual strategic interest.
