Following a landmark meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the White House confirmed today that the two nations reached an agreement on “almost everything,” signaling a significant de-escalation in the ongoing US-China Trade War.

Key Agreements and Trade War Reprieve
The following key points were announced regarding the new Tariff Agreement and the easing of tensions:
- Tariff Reduction: The US is lowering the overall tariff rate on Chinese goods by 10% (from 57% to 47%) in response to Chinese commitments across several critical sectors. This marks a major step toward resolving the trade dispute.
- Soybean & Farm Purchases: China has agreed to immediately increase imports of massive, “tremendous amounts” of US farm products, including soybeans. This addresses a major concern for American agricultural producers.
- Rare Earth Exports: China will suspend its recently imposed controls on rare earth exports for one year. These critical resources are vital for US manufacturing and technology, making the pause a significant diplomatic win.
- Fentanyl Cooperation: The leaders also confirmed progress on addressing issues related to fentanyl, a key priority for the US in addressing the opioid crisis.
As a sign of improving relations, President Trump is scheduled to visit Beijing in April. Leader Xi Jinping will visit the US sometime after that.
In a separate but related development announced prior to the summit, President Trump instructed the Department of Defense to “immediately” begin testing nuclear weapons on an “equal basis” in response to advanced testing by competitor nations, including China and Russia.
The administration views the summit as a pivotal moment, securing concrete deliverables and paving the way for further negotiations to stabilize global trade.
