The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially granted approval for the merger of Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), commonly known as Ufone, and Telenor Pakistan. According to a disclosure submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the regulator’s order was finalized on March 19. This landmark decision marks a significant consolidation in Pakistan’s mobile sector, bringing two major players under the umbrella of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

The approval is not without strings; it is strictly subject to an “unconditional acceptance” of the PTA’s specific regulatory conditions within 15 days. The merger will proceed through a formal scheme of arrangement, a legal process designed to align the transition with the Securities Act of 2015 and PSX regulations. This move follows months of speculation and is expected to create a massive telecommunications entity capable of rivaling the current market leader, Jazz. For consumers, the integration of Telenor’s extensive network with Ufone’s infrastructure could eventually lead to improved coverage, though the regulator will likely monitor the impact on competition and pricing closely.
