Mian Ali Ashfaq, Butt’s counsel, condemned the violence on social media, stating that his client was injured while lawyers continued to beat him despite pleas to stop. Ashfaq described the behavior as unprofessional and warned that such actions damage the reputation of the legal community and the rule of law. Footage from the scene showed Butt with a torn shirt surrounded by a crowd. In other videos, the complainant, Riaz Solangi, and other lawyers claimed the assault was a response to inappropriate remarks Butt allegedly made about the legal profession.

The legal case stems from a January complaint alleging that Butt posted a video in 2024 showing him praying while music played in the background. Although Butt previously released an apology video alongside religious scholars, the legal proceedings continue. Following the incident, the court extended Butt’s interim bail until January 13. Butt recently returned to Pakistan from London after receiving protective bail in multiple pending cases.
