This attack has been described by local elders as an assault on the community’s “only beacon of hope” for education, underscoring the severe consequences in a region where such institutions are scarce.
The district administration has condemned the incident as an “anti-education act” and launched a search operation, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing. Attacks on schools, particularly in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal districts, are a recurring strategy used by militant groups, including factions of the TTP, to enforce anti-education ideologies, especially against girls’ schooling, and to target symbols of government authority.
Authorities are now urgently trying to seal off the damaged sections and arrange alternative facilities to prevent a total lapse in education for the hundreds of affected students, as the destruction compounds existing literacy and enrollment challenges in the volatile border region.
