Saudi–Turkiye Renewable Deal Signals a New Green Energy Era

Feb 6, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

A Strategic Energy Partnership Takes Shape

Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have signed a major strategic agreement to develop large-scale renewable energy projects in Turkiye, marking a strong step forward in clean energy cooperation. The deal focuses on building massive solar power plants with a total capacity of up to 5 gigawatts, making it one of the largest renewable partnerships in the region.

The agreement reflects growing economic and energy ties between the two countries and shows a shared commitment to sustainable development and long-term energy security.

Multi-Billion Dollar Investment in Solar Power

The project will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, Saudi Arabia will invest 2 billion dollars to develop two major solar power plants in the Turkish provinces of Sivas and Karaman, with a combined capacity of 2 gigawatts. The second phase will add another 3 gigawatts of solar capacity under frameworks agreed by both sides.

The electricity produced will be purchased by a Turkish state-owned company for a period of 30 years, ensuring financial stability and long-term returns. The projects will also prioritise the use of local Turkish equipment and service providers, helping to boost the local industry and create new jobs.

Supporting Turkiye’s Clean Energy Vision

This agreement strongly supports Turkiye’s long-term renewable energy goals. Under its 2035 renewable roadmap, Turkiye plans to massively expand its wind and solar power capacity, aiming for 120 gigawatts by 2050. By the end of 2024, the country will have more than 13 gigawatts of solar power and 12 gigawatts of wind power installed.

The Saudi-backed solar projects will accelerate this transition, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and strengthen Türkiye’s position as a regional leader in clean energy. The partnership highlights how international cooperation can play a key role in building a greener and more sustainable future.
