KHARTOUM – August 10, 2025 – In a brutal attack that underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis, Sudanese paramilitary forces have killed 18 civilians in a series of assaults on villages west of Khartoum. The attack is the latest in a wave of violence that has plagued the nation, which is grappling with a protracted civil war.
The targeted villages, located in the western region, were reportedly struck by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group engaged in a deadly conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The killings are part of a wider pattern of violence, including summary executions, sexual violence, and the looting of civilian property, that has been systematically documented by human rights organizations.
The current conflict has driven over 12 million people from their homes, making it one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Both the RSF and the SAF have been accused of widespread human rights abuses and war crimes. The international community continues to call for an immediate end to the hostilities and for all parties to respect international humanitarian law. This latest attack serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further civilian casualties and restore stability to the region.
