Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, alleging involvement of “terrorist proxies backed by India,” a claim New Delhi rejected as “baseless.” Jumaat ul Ahrar, a splinter faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility, though the TTP’s central command denied any role. Footage from the scene showed charred vehicles and heavy police presence around the blast site, which occurred at 12:39 p.m. local time.
President Asif Ali Zardari and other officials condemned the bombing, calling it an attack on Pakistan’s peace and stability. The incident marks the deadliest assault in the capital in recent years, reigniting fears of a renewed militant campaign amid rising tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.
