The Copilot team has announced that their AI companion service on WhatsApp will be discontinued effective January 15, 2026, a decision driven by recent updates to WhatsApp’s platform policies that remove all Large Language Model (LLM) chatbots from the messaging application.
Launched in late 2024, the Copilot service, which allowed millions of users to engage with their AI companion in a familiar setting, will cease to function on the WhatsApp platform after the specified date.

For users wishing to continue using the service, Copilot will remain fully available and can be accessed through its other surfaces, which offer all core features plus additional functionalities like Copilot Voice, Vision, and Mico.
These alternative platforms include the Copilot mobile app for iOS and Android, the web version at copilot.com, and the integration on Windows. Users are advised to utilize WhatsApp’s built-in export tools to save a record of their conversations before January 15, 2026, as Copilot cannot transfer unauthenticated chat history from the WhatsApp platform to its other surfaces.
