Trump noted that India had “largely stopped buying oil from Russia,” though Delhi has not confirmed such a reduction. The president’s remarks come after he imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods in August, including a 25% penalty over Russian oil and arms imports, which had strained bilateral ties.
The two nations are now seeking to reset relations, with Trump suggesting that his trip could coincide with the final stages of the trade deal. It remains unclear whether he will also attend the Quad Summit hosted by India later this year.
