Trump Invites Putin to Gaza “Board of Peace”; Threatens French Wine Tariffs

President Donald Trump confirmed he has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the United States-led Gaza Board of Peace. The board, a key part of Trump’s 20-point plan, is designed to oversee the reconstruction and transitional governance of the territory following a fragile October ceasefire. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the invitation was received via diplomatic channels and stated that Moscow is currently “studying all details.”

The announcement comes amid a diplomatic firestorm in Europe. After French President Emmanuel Macron signaled he would decline the invitation, Trump threatened to impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne. “He’ll join, but he doesn’t have to join,” Trump told reporters in Florida, dismissing the snub. Meanwhile, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has already accepted his invitation, while the UK’s Sir Keir Starmer expressed “deep concern” over the inclusion of sanctioned leaders on a board meant to manage international stability.

The board’s structure is also drawing fire from Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the board’s composition, which includes Turkish and Qatari representatives, was not coordinated with Israel and “contradicts its policy.” Despite these objections, Trump plans to formally ratify the board during a special ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos later this week. Membership reportedly carries a steep price: nations seeking a “permanent” seat are expected to contribute $1 billion toward Gaza’s redevelopment, while others will serve three-year terms.
