Donald Trump has stated that the United States is not yet ready to seek a deal to end the war with Iran, despite indications that Tehran is interested in a ceasefire. Speaking on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Trump characterized Iran’s current terms as not good enough yet, signaling that the U.S. and Israel will continue their offensive to secure a more favorable long-term strategic position. The conflict, which began on February 28 following the strike that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has escalated into a widespread regional crisis involving multiple fronts and devastating humanitarian consequences.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned that he is not ready to seek a deal to end the war with Iran, as U.S. ally Israel launched a new wave of strikes Sunday and Tehran’s Revolutionary Guards threatened to hunt down and kill the Israeli leader. https://t.co/TlUzqLP50k

While the U.S. military has targeted key infrastructure, including ongoing strikes on the Kharg Island oil export facility, Trump suggested that operations would intensify along the Iranian coast to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, the vital sea lane remains virtually closed, with over 600 ships trapped in the Red Sea and global oil prices continuing to soar. The International Committee of the Red Cross reports that over 1,300 people have been killed in Iran by U.S. and Israeli strikes, while 12 people have died in Israel from Iranian missile fire. Additionally, the UN estimates that 3.2 million Iranians have been displaced as families flee the capital and other major cities.
Questions persist regarding the health of the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. While Tehran claims he suffered only light injuries in the initial February strike, Trump has publicly questioned whether he remains alive and in control. Meanwhile, Iran-backed Hezbollah has intensified its involvement from Lebanon, leading to heavy Israeli retaliatory strikes in Sidon and Al-Qatrani. Gulf nations like Bahrain and Saudi Arabia also reported intercepting new barrages of Iranian projectiles on Sunday. Despite the strikes, witnesses describe a surreal return to relative normalcy in Tehran, where many shops and cafes in the Tajrish bazaar have reopened as citizens prepare for Nowruz, even as the national banking system remains paralyzed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged international mediation, stating that Tehran is ready to consider a complete end to the war. However, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, reinforced the U.S. position, stating that the allies are determined to permanently remove the existential threats from Iran rather than accepting a short-term truce. With the U.S. now urging its citizens to leave Iraq and the UK considering the deployment of mine-hunting drones to the Strait of Hormuz, the conflict shows no immediate signs of de-escalation.
